PROVIDENCE (October 16, 2017) – Matthew R. Plain was recently selected for inclusion in the 2018 East Greenwich High School Wall of Honor.
Plain, EGHS Class of ‘94, joins four other inductees in 2018, and over 50 inductees overall, on the Wall of Honor, which showcases the academic, athletic and professional achievements of East Greenwich high school’s former students. Inductees are chosen anonymously based on a list of their personal and professional successes. Plaques honoring each inductee hang near the entrance to the high school’s auditorium.
During his time at EGHS, Plain played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He was a Kent County Player of the Year finalist, won the National Football Foundation’s Golden Dozen Award and Uno Uustal, MD Award for Most Valuable Athlete, and was honored as Best All-Around Male Athlete. Plain was also on the National Honor Society, and served as an editor and sports editor of the Crimson Yearbook.
Plain is a partner at Barton Gilman focusing his practice on education law, including school governance, administrative law, labor and employment, special education, and contract drafting and disputes. In addition, Plain is currently serving his second term as an elected member of the East Greenwich School Committee. In this capacity, he chairs the district’s policy subcommittee and serves on the negotiating team. Plain also teaches Education Reform and Policy at Roger Williams University School of Education. He is a former public school teacher and holds a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. Plain received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law.
In addition to being recently named an America’s Best Lawyer in Education Law, Plain has also been named a New England Super Lawyer Rising Star, and a 40 Under Forty honoree by Providence Business News.
