Working at BG
We take great pride in the collegial work atmosphere at Barton Gilman. The culture at the firm is steeped in a simple notion: Treat everyone with respect and courtesy. Not only that, dynamics such as “collaboration” and “teamwork” carry real meaning around here. Our positive work environment is reflected in the fact that the Providence Business News has named the firm a Rhode Island Best Places to Work eight times in the past decade.
Dedicated to creating an environment of inclusion and diversity, we are focused on prioritizing our DEI efforts to bring them to the next level and create a truly inclusive workplace. Our commitment to track, measure and achieve diversity has helped the firm attain Midsize Mansfield Certification Plus status from Diversity Lab, an organization working to support law firms’ efforts to expand diversity in law firm leadership.
The firm has a diverse and dynamic civil litigation practice. Opportunities abound for gaining meaningful experience in a wide variety of cases. Attorneys who join our firm are involved in all aspects of our cases from the get-go. Barton Gilman’s entrepreneurial heritage is reflected in our support of independent thinking by our attorneys. We nurture individuals with drive and initiative. We have a formal mentoring program for new attorneys, and we encourage participation in community organizations and pro bono activities.
Barton Gilman’s partnership is comprised of attorneys who joined the firm very early in their careers and worked their way up through the ranks. All of our attorneys participate in running the business, including regular review of the firm financials, participation in firm committees, and regular attorneys’ meetings. In fact, our internal transparency is unmatched in the legal profession.
Barton Gilman offers a compensation and benefits package competitive with similar-sized firms in their respective areas. For example, we offer comprehensive family and individual medical insurance, as well as life and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan, and a recruitment reward program. We provide a personal digital assistant and laptop computer to each attorney, and pay for bar memberships.
