PROVIDENCE (May 17, 2017) – C. Alexander Chiulli was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities.
Founded in 1973, the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities was established to promote public understanding and appreciation of the tradition of thought and accomplishment that we call the humanities. Their work is based on the conviction that history, literature, philosophy, theology, civics, the arts and other fields of the humanities are central not only to formal education, but to the daily lives of a free and diverse people. To date, the Council has awarded more than $8 million through more than 1,640 grants, and has supported more than 650 community organizations, including historical societies, libraries, museums, educational institutions, cultural, ethnic and faith groups, and arts organizations.
Before joining the Council’s Board, Chiulli served on the Advisory Board of the Rhode Island Center for the Book, which is responsible for the well-known Reading Across Rhode Island Program and hosted by the Council. Chiulli plans to remain a member of the Center for the Book’s Advisory Board.
Alex is an attorney at Barton Gilman providing legal counsel to individuals, emerging businesses, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions with respect to intellectual property, Internet law, privacy and information law, entrepreneurship, and the First Amendment as well as education law, general liability, employment, contract, and corporate matters. He received his J.D. from Suffolk Law School, with distinction in the area of intellectual property and received Suffolk Law’s Stanley W. Sokoloff Intellectual Property Award.Alex served as a judicial law clerk for the Rhode Island Superior Court, assisting the Honorable Sarah Taft-Carter, the Honorable Luis Matos, and the Honorable Brian Van Couyghen. A native of the Edgewood area of Cranston, Rhode Island, Alex graduated from Cranston High School East in 2000. He obtained a B.S. in Business Administration from Fairfield University in Connecticut.
