Pamela S. Gilman, Francis A. Connor, III and Matthew R. Plain were recently selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2020.
This is the ninth consecutive year that Gilman has been selected in the personal injury litigation – defendants practice area. In her distinguished career, she has won over seventy jury trials in Massachusetts, and routinely represents clients in complex medical malpractice, personal injury, premises and products liability matters. She has twice been named a Woman Leader in the Law in by Fortune Magazine. In addition, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly named Gilman a Top Woman of Law in 2011, an honor given to only 36 Massachusetts attorneys. She has been recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer since 2011, and has maintained an AV Preeminent rating from the Martindale-Hubbell National Law Directory, the highest rating available for legal ability and ethical standards, for over sixteen years. She is currently serving her third tenure as one of the firm’s co-managing partners. Connor, also recognized for the eighth consecutive year, has been selected in the professional malpractice law –defendants practice area. He is an experienced trial and appellate attorney whose expertise includes cases involving professional liability defense, business disputes, insurance and reinsurance issues. An increasing number of health care clients in Massachusetts and Rhode Island are calling upon Connor to defend them in disputes with state and federal authorities, as well as private health insurers, concerning licensure, regulatory matters and allegations of improper or fraudulent billing, in particular Medicare and Medicaid billing. Connor also regularly serves as a mediator and arbitrator. He is an invited member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, has been recognized as a Rhode Island Super Lawyer since 2013, a Professional with Excellence in the Law, and maintains an AV Preeminent rating from the Martindale-Hubbell National Law Directory, the highest rating available for legal ability and ethical standards. Connor has been a partner in the firm since 1998 and a longtime leader on its management team, and is currently serving his fourth term as one of the firm’s co-managing partners.
Plain has been selected for the third consecutive year in the education law practice area. He is an experienced education law attorney representing clients in school governance, administrative law, labor and employment, special education, and contract drafting and disputes. In addition, Plain is currently serving his second term as an elected member of the East Greenwich School Committee. In this capacity, he chairs the district’s policy subcommittee and serves on the negotiating team. Plain also teaches Education Reform and Policy at Roger Williams University School of Education. He is a former public school teacher and holds a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. Plain received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law. In addition to being named a Best Lawyer, he has also been named a Professional with Excellence in Law, Rhode Island Super Lawyer, a New England Super Lawyer Rising Star and a 40 Under Forty honoree by Providence Business News.
