Matt Plain is featured in “One person’s mission to improve our schools,” which appears in the Winter 2022 issue of Giving Changes Everything, a magazine published by the Rhode Island Foundation. The article highlights Matt’s passion for improving education.
A former teacher, Matt went into law to effectuate changes in education. He notes that while he loved teaching, he was fascinated by the policy and legal underpinnings of the education system. After earning his law degree from Roger Williams University School of Law, Matt joined Barton Gilman and dedicated a significant portion of his practice to education law. Active in charter school and education reform movements in Rhode Island, Matt also serves as outside counsel to several nonprofits and handles a variety of civil litigation matters.
Barton Gilman represents nonprofits throughout New England and more than 200 schools from Massachusetts to Maryland in issues ranging from governance to contracts and from special education matters to discipline issues.
