Carr is an experienced civil litigator, focusing her trial practice on professional liability defense, employment law, business litigation, real estate disputes and insurance coverage law. She was named a 2012 Rhode Island Rising Star by Super Lawyers.
Carr has obtained a number of jury trial verdicts in favor of medical professionals.
For example, she most recently persuaded a Massachusetts Superior Court jury that a nurse practitioner and her medical practice employer provided proper care and treatment to a woman who eventually died of lung cancer. In another medical malpractice trial, she obtained a defense verdict on behalf of an obstetrician who allegedly had failed to timely deliver an unborn infant at risk, which the mother claimed resulted in the child’s stillbirth during the 37th week of gestation.
Plain concentrates his practice in labor and employment law, professional liability, general liability, contract disputes, and administrative law. He serves clients in the government, and also in the private and non-profit sectors.
Among his significant accomplishments, Plain persuaded the Rhode Island Supreme Court to order a local school district to reimburse the firm’s client, a local independent public charter school, for tuition payments the district had wrongfully withheld under a mistaken interpretation of state law. He successfully defended in administrative appeals two schools facing closure by the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Plain also served as one of the primary drafters of the current Rhode Island Charter Public Schools Act.
The Providence Business News named Plain as one of its 40 Under Forty winners in 2011, and Super Lawyers honored him as a Rhode Island Rising Star in 2011 and 2012. Prior to law school, he taught 7th and 8th Grade in the North Carolina public schools for four years.
“Angela and Matt are highly accomplished and skilled attorneys. We are truly fortunate to have them as our partners,” said Sheri L. Pizzi, a partner and member of the firm’s Executive Committee. “They add depth to the partnership, and enhance the firm’s capabilities in serving clients.”
