PROVIDENCE (Jan. 17, 2017) – For the third consecutive year, Barton Gilman is sponsoring Reading Across Rhode Island, a program of the Rhode Island Center for the Book at the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities.
Each year, Reading Across Rhode Island selects one book for a community read. This year’s book is New York Times Bestseller Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, Esq—a powerful and true story about inequality in the justice system. The 2017 program runs from January through May with readers in Rhode Island classrooms, libraries, community centers, bookstores and book groups invited to join discussions and participate in local community events such as lectures, exhibits and dramatic interpretations centered on this year’s selection.
The program will kick off on January 29th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Providence Public Library with an event hosted by Honorary Co-Chairs Judges Judith C. Savage and Edward C. Clifton, and culminates with Bryan Stevenson speaking in Rhode Island on April 8th. For more information about these events and others related to this year’s program, please visit Reading Across Rhode Island.
